Are You Creating An Idol Out Of Your Purpose? (Part 1)

by Shae Bynes, Co-Founder of Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur

It’s important that we not create an idol of our life’s purpose, even if it’s God’s plan and purpose for us. We often talk about pursuing purpose, but nothing….absolutely nothing…is more key than pursuing Him.

I think we mostly know this intellectually and we know the scripture Matthew 6:33 that says “But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you” but when you really take a moment to evaluate you may find that you’re pursuing PURPOSE (even a godly one) over pursuing HIM.

You may be thinking “What’s the difference? If I’m focused on doing what God has called me to do and I’m aligned with His will for my life, I AM pursuing Him…right?”

A little over a year ago, I thought that myself, but now I can tell you from personal experience that the answer is “Absolutely not.”

When you focus on cultivating an intimate relationship with Christ and pursuing God (not God’s purpose for you) your #1 priority, things shift. You will never ever ever ever EVER be the same.

    So true keeping God first.

I learned that in college since I needed to get my life in order. Some may have seen it as arrogant but I made a sign that listed my priorities-
    1- God
    2- Family
    3- Friends
    4- Girls

This really helped me out and got me through school since I think I got off track in my sophomore year.
